A 9-month-old Florida boy drowned in a bathtub Friday afternoon, Dec. 20, while his parents slept, authorities said.
Authorities said they received a 911 call about 11:30 a.m., reporting a child had been found face down in the tub at a home in Southeast Parkway Drive in Hobe Sound, TCPalm reported.
When deputies arrived, someone in the home was performing CPR. The baby was then taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The child, who was found unresponsive, identified as Cameron Davis, WPTV reported.
According to Sheriff William Snyder, Cameron’s mother went to give him a bath, then left him alone in the bathtub for at least 20 minutes so she could take a nap. The sheriff said both the baby’s parents were asleep at the time he apparently drowned.
“When she came back, she found the baby, what they described as blue,” Snyder said. “Obviously the child drowned.”
At this point, no arrests have been made in the case. The sheriff’s department is working with the state attorney’s office to determine if criminal charges should be filed against the baby’s parents.
“Obviously, a 9-month-old alone in a bathtub could be prevented,” Snyder said. “It’s very suspicious.”
The Department of Children and Families is assisting with the investigation and is removing two other children under the age of 4 from the home.
