A feminist leader in favor of abortion has published a controversial live video in which she swallows abortion pills, intending to show women that abortion “doesn’t necessarily need to be a huge deal.” The videos sparked outrage in pro-life circles, who say the move is irresponsible and, in addition to promoting abortion, threatens the safety of millions of women.
Amelia Bonow, the co-founder of Shout Your Abortion, a group aimed at promoting the legalization and normalization of abortion, published a series of videos divided into two sections on July 16.
In the first of the videos, Bonow can be seen promoting the use of abortion pills, absolutely minimizing the risks, indicating how to get them easily, and making special emphasis on the fact that they can be consumed without the supervision of a doctor or specialized person.
The second video is even more controversial. In it, you can see how Bonow buys the pills online from a supposedly non-profit group that sells the abortifacient drugs at a price of approximately $150. She also clarified that she is not pregnant and will only take the pills to experience their effects.
Two days later, she received the package with the abortion pills: one tablet of mifepristone and eight tablets of misoprostol. She later “began preparing” for her “non-abortion” and, among other things, warned her roommate, “who has had multiple medication abortions,” to “be prepared to take care of her.”
Then, the influencer, who had already declared herself not to be pregnant, shows how she ingested the pills. As she did so, she described their effects. First, she swallowed the mifepristone pill, which “begins the abortion process. You don’t actually feel anything after taking it, and you can go about your normal life, doing whatever,” she described.
Twenty-four hours later, it was time to ingest the four Misoprostol pills. “When misoprostol starts working, it causes a person to experience cramps, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea,” she said. “It basically causes you to cramp out whatever is in your uterus.”
The next image in the video claims to be taken several hours later when the effects of the drug had worn off. Her roommate questions her about how she feels, and Banow admits to not having slept all night because of the pain, stomach upset, and bleeding.
Regardless, she emphasized, “I feel okay.” And, “if I was pregnant and didn’t want to be, that’d be awesome.”
She wanted to show that “doing this doesn’t have to be a big deal.” For many people, this might be the best and most convenient way to terminate a pregnancy. Even better than visiting an abortion clinic,” Bonow said.
The method promoted by the pro-abortion influencer is usually recommended up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, although many women, especially those who are not well advised, use it late, generating even more devastating effects.
The Mifepristone pill, which is ingested in the first stage of the abortion, blocks the hormone progesterone and causes the lining of the mother’s uterus to rupture, cutting off the baby’s blood and nutrition, resulting in the baby’s death.
A day or two later, the woman must take misoprostol. These pills cause severe cramping, contractions, and often heavy bleeding to force the dead baby out of the woman’s uterus.
In most cases, this process is excruciating and is often very traumatic for the woman with the dead fetus eventually flushed down the toilet.
However, Banow and the group Shout Your Abortion make no mention of these inconveniences and instead promote “happy stories” of women who have had abortions without any inconvenience and who say they are liberated and happy with their decision.
