A FedEx semi-truck driver was killed Thursday night, Aug. 22 while trying to help the driver of a Corvette, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

It happened around 10:40 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Via Inspirada. A 1993 Chevy Corvette unexpectedly caught fire while traveling north on the boulevard.

The driver of the semi saw the fire and jumped out with a fire extinguisher. He was crossing the road when he was hit by a cement mixer, Trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

The FedEx driver, identified as 58-year-old John Stacy, of Pahrump, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the cement mixer stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
