A father in Santa Ana, California, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after his 13-day-old son suffered a bad beating, leaving him in critical condition with a skull fracture and internal injuries, according to New Santa Ana.

Jonathan Reyes was arrested after the boy’s mother woke to find him badly beaten and brought him to the emergency room of Children’s Hospital of Orange County on Aug. 19, 2019, the Santa Ana Police Department said.

Along with a skull fracture and internal injuries, the boy suffered multiple visible injuries to his face and body and tested positive for methamphetamine.

Reyes is the boy’s biological father and admitted that he used methamphetamine and was caring for the boy while the boy’s mother was asleep.

Reyes denied abusing his boy but made incriminating statements, police said.

Reyes was out on bail for a robbery that took place in March of this year. Police said Reyes was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of child abuse, as well as committing a crime while out on bail.

Santa Ana Police Department Detectives are asking anyone with information related to this case to contact Detective Giovanni Tapia at 714-245-8516, [email protected] or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
