According to FOX13NEWS, a father drowned in a strong current off a southwest Florida beach while rescuing his 8-year-old daughter on Tuesday, July 9.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the body of the man was found late Tuesday, a photo in a Facebook post.
The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday the family walked on the beach in North Captiva Island when the mother, walking ahead, glanced and saw her husband and daughter struggling in the water.
The mother jumped into the water, and her husband handed their daughter to her.
But, according to the office of the sheriff, the father struggled and disappeared under the water.
The U.S. Coast Guard and rescuers from nearby fire departments searched for the man by boat and helicopter and late Tuesday night found his body.
Authorities have identified the man as Thomas Zakrewski.
