As the Biden administration desperately tries to get obstinate vaccine-doubters to accept the jabs in the face of the transmissive Delta variant, social media platforms like Facebook have become a hindrance.
On Friday, July 16, as U.S. President Joe Biden was leaving the White House, a reporter asked him to give a message to the online sites about “COVID misinformation,” such as Facebook, to which he answered shortly:
“They’re killing people,” Biden said. “The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated, and they’re killing people.”
During the same day, press secretary Jen Psaki revealed the White House was not happy with how Facebook has been managing what has been spread about the vaccines against COVID-19 (the CCP Virus).
In particular, they thought one of the core reasons why some Americans stick hard to their opposition with the vaccines was because of the information they might have access to, which deterred their confidence in the shots.
For this, the administration blamed Facebook for not being rigorous enough with their “disinformation” scanning task.
“Facebook needs to move more quickly to remove harmful violative posts,” Psaki said Friday during a briefing, informing that the White House was working with the social media giant to review how they should filter information on their platform.
During the same day, Facebook issued a statement denouncing the President’s accusation, refuting that they indulged invalid information about the CCP Virus on their site.
“We will not be distracted by accusations which aren’t supported by the facts,” Facebook said in a statement,” the social media tyrant declared, as reported by Fox News.
“The fact is that more than 2 billion people have viewed authoritative information about COVID-19 and vaccines on Facebook, which is more than any other place on the internet. More than 3.3 million Americans have also used our vaccine finder tool to find out where and how to get a vaccine. The facts show that Facebook is helping save lives. Period.”
Facebook had already begun to filter information about the vaccines since March.
“For example, we’re adding a label on posts that discuss the safety of COVID-19 vaccines that notes COVID-19 vaccines go through tests for safety and effectiveness before they’re approved,” Zuckerberg wrote in a statement back then.
Ever since becoming president of the United States, Biden has been pretty much conscious of protections against the CCP Virus. When Florida and Texas lead the country with lifting all the public restrictions, Biden has not stopped his skeptics until the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that it was the right time to do so.
For now, as the highly transmissive Delta variant is already wreaking havoc in places where vaccination rates are low, it is quite understandable why Biden may try to go hard on urging more vaccination.
However, over the course of vaccines rolling out, even the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cannot ignore that the experimental vaccines may not be safe for all recipients, given that there might be adverse side effects that could even lead to death from side effects such as blood clots and heart inflammation.
It remains to see how Biden may lead the U.S. through the new threats of the CCP Virus pandemic.
