Authorities are questioning a New Yorker who allegedly attacked a young child for no reason on July 3.

New York Police Department (NYPD) wants to know exactly why Kevin Cadelina thought it was a good idea to slap the unnamed boy at Central Park, near Columbus Circle.

The 7-year-old claimed the force was so great that he immediately fell to the ground. He later reported no serious injuries.

Family members and other witnesses helped apprehend Cadelina until NYPD officers arrived and finally took the 33-year-old into custody. NYPD considers the man could be “emotionally disturbed,” according to the New York Post.

The BL understands the suspect has been charged with assault and behaving in a way that harms a child. His attorney’s contact details were not immediately available.

The victim’s father thanked several bystanders who “jumped in” and assisted him on the day of the alleged attack.

“We are very shaken, we are glad the guy was arrested,” the anonymous father told the paper. “We are very thankful … [and] they made sure we were okay. New York came through and we really appreciate it.”
