The 75-year-old man who was assaulted after getting off a Metro Transit bus last week has died from his injuries.
The assault happened in the afternoon on Nov. 6 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, FOX9 reported.
Leroy Davontay Davis-Miles, 23, was charged with second-degree murder. He was originally charged with first-degree assault.
Surveillance video shows the elderly passenger asking Davis-Miles and his friends to lower their voices on the bus. But the young men threatened to attack the man when he exits the bus, the report said.
When the elderly got off the bus at the Chicago-Lake Transit Center, the group followed. Surveillance video shows Davis-Miles punched the elderly man, causing him to fall backward and strike his head against the pavement.
After the man lay unconscious on the ground, Davis-Miles and one of his friends shook hands in a “congratulatory manner” and then rummaged through the victim’s pockets, WCTRIB.COM reported.
The man suffered a serious brain injury and died around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, police said.
This marks the city’s 39th homicide this year. Davis-Miles remains jailed on $150,000 bail.
