A 77-year-old veteran on a motorized wheelchair was struck by a hit-and-run driver and killed on Monday, July 8, in Pasco County, Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 12:25 p.m.

The victim was identified as Larry Small, 77, of Holiday. He was hit by a 1991 Dodge minivan while riding his motorized wheelchair in the crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the minivan fled after striking Small. The vehicle may be damaged on the front, the hood, or the windshield.

Investigators closed the road for several hours. Later Monday, troopers recovered the minivan and said they were interviewing a 90-year-old believed to be the driver.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Highway Patrol at 813-558-1800.
