A U.S. Marine vet who served in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971 was the victim of a hit and run one day before Veteran’s Day. The suspect was charged with being involved with an accident causing death while not licensed, failing to stop and render aid, driving without a license, and related offenses, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Nemias Perez Severiano, 31, a Mexican national in the country illegally, according to the criminal complaint, told police he had consumed seven or eight beers in a restaurant beforehand and was “a little drunk.”
The veteran, Samuel W. Jackson, 67, was hit while exiting his parked car in front of his Norristown home in Pennsylvania on Nov. 10. He was dragged more than 50 feet. He died at a nearby hospital.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Severiano is being held on a $200,000 bond and lodged an immigration detainer against him.
A grandmother and a 15-year-old boy were killed in North Carolina on that day in a car accident. The suspect is an allegedly impaired illegal immigrant who has been deported twice was charged in that accident, ABC 11 News reported.
