Former President Donald Trump received the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s first Champion for Freedom Award, the organization announced Monday.

Sen. Rick Scott, a former Florida governor, presented Trump with the award in Palm Beach for nominating three Supreme Court justices, lowering middle-class taxes, and protecting the southern border, the NRSC said in a release.

It said the award recognizes “conservative leaders who have worked tirelessly to create good jobs, protect the values that make our country great, and stop the Democrats’ socialist agenda.”

“President Trump is a proven champion for all Americans,” said Scott, the NRSC chairman.

“Throughout his administration, he made clear his commitment to getting government out of the way of people’s success, paving the way for American families and job creators to reach new heights. President Trump fought for American workers, secured the border, and protected our constitutional rights,” he said.

The move angered many Democrats and Trump critics. Here are some of their reactions.

“This party is so [expletive] pathetic that they have to bestow golden offerings (with names like “FreeDoM aWaRd”) to stay in the good graces of their one-term president.”

“So you made up some BS “freedom”award for the madman who incited an attack on the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of an election which he legitimately lost?”

“The GOP is just too funny…you give Trump an award from the National Republican Senate the same day he insults the Republican leader. We Democrats have our flaws but you guys are just plain flat-out [expletive] crazy.”

“What a disgusting joke.”
