A 31-year-old Colorado Department of Corrections officer was arrested on Friday, Jan. 3, in connection with a sexual assault on a 14-year-old.
According to the Fountain Police Department, Khurtis Maasch of Colorado Springs was arrested on five felony charges: two counts of sexual assault on a child and three counts of internet luring of a child.
Fountain police said they began investigating a report on Dec. 20 that a 14-year-old had been sexually assaulted.
After the two-week investigation, Maasch was contacted in a Fountain neighborhood and arrested, FOX21 News reported.
The police also believed there might be more victims in the case.
He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, KKTV reported.
A statement was provided by the Colorado Department of Corrections, “Our department is appalled by the alleged behavior of Mr. Maasch,” Annie Skinner, Public Information Officer for the Department of Corrections, said. “We thank the Fountain Police Department for their work, and will assist them in any way we can. The alleged incidents and actions happened outside of our facility, and go against everything we stand for as a department. Mr. Maasch will be suspended from the department as the proper next steps are taken in accordance with the state personnel rules.”
