A marketing executive at Prager University stressed that the YouTube video platform, owned by Google, restricts the audience of their videos with conservative content, limiting access to millions of people.

“There is so much evidence every day that they continue to restrict us, simply because we’re conservatives,” Craig Strazzeri told Steve Doocy, the host of “Fox & Friends,” according to a Western Journal.

Strazzeri also argued, “They want the immunities that Section 230 of the [Communications Decency] provides to neutral public forums, but then they want to act like a publisher and have editorial control and restrict content that they don’t like, which is clearly conservative content.”

Prager University, known as PragerU, filed a lawsuit against Google in October 2017 after YouTube tagged more than 100 of its educational videos as “dangerous” or “derogatory,” which has the effect of restricting the audience.

“‘Restricted’ means that families that have a filter to avoid pornography and violence cannot see that video,” the video producer told a Senate subcommittee in a July hearing, according to The Daily Signal.

PragerU also claims that it is not that their videos are restricted because they conform to that classification but because they “promote conservative ideas.”

Both parties presented oral arguments on Aug. 27 in Prager University v. Google LLC before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Seattle.

Topics that have been limited to the public include the 10 Commandments, tolerance, climate change, freedom of speech and fake news, and the videos tend to last three to five minutes. Their contents teach about the founding principles and institutions of the United States.

Peter Obstler, PragerU’s lead attorney, highlighted the importance of the First Amendment right of free speech.

“Civil dialogue and civil discourse in an open way is the only thing that can keep our democracy going,” Obstler said, quoted by The Daily Signal.
