Former President Bill Clinton’s connection to the recently arrested pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is said to have been established through Epstein’s British heiress and former friend Ghislaine Maxwell, who also became a friend of Chelsea Clinton.

The family further strengthened its bond with Maxwell after former President Clinton left office in early 2001, Politico reported, according to the New York Post.

“The Clintons were relatively intimate with her,” said a friend of Maxwell, quoted by the Post.

On the other hand, a person familiar with the relationship revealed that Maxwell was “the contact between Epstein and Clinton,” and the proximity was apparently due to the British woman’s friendship with Chelsea.

Maxwell, the daughter of the late tycoon Robert Maxwell, was on vacation on a yacht with the Clinton daughter in 2009 and attended her wedding to Marc Mezvinsky the following year, said Politico, quoted by the New York Post.

The multimillionaire was convicted in 2008 in Florida on two charges related to prostitution, one of which involved a minor, and through a negotiation he was released after 13 months of house arrest. This negotiation is now under investigation.

Epstein was arrested again July 6 in New York and faces new charges of sex trafficking on charges filed in the early 2000s, according to authorities.

He is accused of abusing dozens of girls at his residences in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida, and of recruiting his victims to bring other girls.

In 2015, Virginia Giuffre sued Maxwell for denying her statement that Maxwell recruited her to be sexually abused by Epstein when Giuffre was 15. Maxwell and Guiffre settled that lawsuit for undisclosed terms on the eve of last year’s trial.

Maxwell is also said to have hired, supervised and laid off household staff while directing the visits of dozens of “massage therapists” to Epstein’s residence, according to a Wall Street Journal report earlier this month.

Although it is unclear how Bill Clinton’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein began, it was reported that Clinton made at least 26 trips on Epstein’s Boeing 727 between 2001 and 2003 to the Caribbean island of Little St. James, owned by the latter and where lavish encounters would be held.

Among other contacts between the two men is a charity previously run by Epstein, The C.O.U.Q. Foundation, contributed $25,000 to the Clinton Foundation according to its 2006 tax return, the Daily Beast reported, quoted by the New York Post.

Also, Angel Urena, Bill Clinton’s spokesman, acknowledged the mutual visits made in 2002 in New York.

Epstein is being held in New York on charges of child sex trafficking. David Boies, a lawyer for Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of the women who sued Epstein, said recently that “nobody who was around Epstein a lot is going to have an easy time now. It’s all going to come out.”
