Loved ones of a Middleburg High School senior who died after she was hit by a car gathered Thursday night, Aug. 15, to honor her memory.

The family said 18-year-old Maegan Howsare, of Clay County, was leaving work at Popeyes around 9:30 p.m on Wednesday, Aug. 14, according to Action News Jax. She was struck by a passing car while crossing Blanding Boulevard to meet her ride at the RaceTrac gas station.

She was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.

“‘[I feel] empty because I want her. I want her by me. This is us,” said her father, Tim Howsare. “It’s something I wouldn’t even imagine, and I wouldn’t imagine for any other person with a child.”

Maegan’s boyfriend, Landon Pint, said he loved her very much and planned to spend the rest of his life with her.

“The night before graduation, I was going to go up to her father and ask permission to marry her,” Pint said, according to News4Jax. “I was going to do it during graduation while I was on stage.”

People who knew Maegan said she would be greatly missed.

“She meant a lot to everyone,” one of Maegan’s friends said.

It was unclear if the driver was cited.

Maegan’s family hoped more answers come out about this crash and the investigation.
