Police are asking for help in a “Stranger Danger” case that an unidentified male in a maroon truck approached a child playing in front of the house and offered her to “stay warm” inside of his vehicle on Tuesday night, Oct. 19, according to a Facebook post of Colorado Springs Police Department.
The incident happened in the 8300 block of Winding Passage Drive. The neighborhood is just east of Powers and south of Research Parkway on the northeast side of the city, according to 11 News.
The suspect drove by the home at least two times when making contact with the child, Lt. James Sokolik with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
The child said “no” and went safely back into her house.
According to police, the child is an elementary school student and was the only one who saw the suspect. She told police the suspect is an “older” male.
“”Stranger Danger” is a serious issue that can lead to children being harmed, abducted, or even exploited. We are grateful that the young child from last night’s incident is safe. This is a good reminder for parents to talk and educate their children about stranger danger. The CSPD is actively looking into last night’s case. If you recognize the vehicle or have any additional information, please call the CSPD at (719) 444-7000,” Colorado Springs Police said on their Facebook page.
Police are working to figure out what the suspect’s intent was and if the man is considered dangerous.
