The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is conducting a probe into the death of a 13-year-old boy from Saginaw County, Michigan, who was found dead in his sleep just three days after his second Pfizer injection in mid-June.

The news about the investigation was reported by the Free Press on July 2, saying that the county health department has contacted the CDC to look into the boy’s case.

“The investigation as to whether there is a correlation between his death and vaccination is now at the federal level with CDC,” the Saginaw County Health Department Medical Director told the outlet in a statement.

“Meanwhile, the health department continues to encourage families to speak with their physicians to weigh their own risks and benefits of vaccination.”

Jacob Clynick from Zilwawkee was healthy and free of underlying medical conditions before his second dose of the Pfizer vaccination on June 13 at a Walgreens store.

The eighth-grade teenager was going to attend Carrollton High School this fall, according to his aunt Tammy Burages.

After the shot, Clynick suffered from fever and fatigue, which are regular side effects caused by the doses. Before going to sleep and never waking up again on June 15, the boy also complained of a slight stomach ache.

“He passed away in the middle of the night at home,” said his aunt.

While the county health department has not confirmed any conclusion from the autopsy, Burages reviewed that preliminary autopsy diagnosis concluded Clynick lost his life due to a swollen heart with fluids surrounding it.

This is the exact severe side-effect that the CDC in mid-May said occurs “predominantly in adolescents and young adults,” and would more likely resurface after dose 2 of the vaccination.

On June 10, CDC released a report about the potential ailment, saying that although the inflammation may make most patients hospitalized, it would subside in a day or two.

Speaking of the boy’s cause of death, Randy Pfau, director of operations for the Michigan Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine, in charge of Clynick’s autopsy, was rather vague.

“We can verify that we are managing the investigation, and that’s the extent of what I can share,” said Pfau. “It’s still an ongoing investigation. I know the doctors are working on this case as a priority.”

There has not been any official confirmation about the link between Clynick’s death and the vaccines, but his aunt was hopeful that the autopsy investigation would review more data.

“This is one of those things that I suspect they’re never going to really be able to say, ‘Oh, it was shot’ or ‘It wasn’t shot,’ ” Burages said.

“There must be something that makes certain kids more susceptible to having a serious heart reaction, and I think Jacob was one of those kids. So whatever that serious thing was, whatever the underlying health issue was, is something maybe that the autopsy will tell us,” she added.

Earlier in May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency authorization to Pfizer vaccination in teenagers from 12 to 15 years old.
