A small plane crashed into the roof of a California shopping center Thursday, Sept. 19, killing at least one person and leaving a second in critical condition.

The crash was reported around 12:15 p.m. on the 25300 block of Crenshaw Boulevard.

The aircraft—believed to be a Cessna—crashed sometime after taking off from Torrance Municipal Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Torrance Fire Department Chief Assistant Robert Millea confirmed one person was killed, while a second was in critical condition.

Crenshaw Boulevard was shut down, resulting in heavy traffic in the surrounding area.
