Radio talk show host Larry Elder will not join in California’s governorship race this year; instead, he will create a political action committee (PAC) to support the Republican Party.
On Tuesday, Jan. 4, Elder said that he would not seek to challenge Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom for a second straight time in November 2022’s election, Fox News reported.
However, the conservative radio host said he would form the Elder for America PAC to help Republicans win back majorities in the House and the Senate in this year’s midterm elections. He will also assist GOP candidates in local races where public safety and education are top issues.
During California’s recall election last September, Elder easily topped the replacement field, surpassing 46 other candidates on the ballot, but was unsuccessful in ousting Gov. Newsom who survived the recall attempt.
In the state’s recall election, Elder received roughly 3.5 million votes. However, nearly 62% of Californians voted to keep Newsom in office.
“We may have lost the battle, but we are going to win the war,” Elder told supporters at that time.
The announcement of creating the Elder for America PAC this week would help him keep his promise.
“I ran for Governor because I wanted to make a difference,” he said on Tuesday. “While I may not know what the future holds for me politically, our campaign’s ability to attract millions of votes and millions of dollars in a very short time demonstrates we have a message that resonates with Americans, and I believe we can put that to good use.”
The Elder for America PAC “will engage in public education campaigns, direct voter contact, and fundraising to help Republicans win key seats in the House and Senate, and effect public policy on the local level.
“The radical left’s woke agenda is destroying America. Our major cities look like war zones thanks to ‘progressive’ district attorneys and other pro-criminal policies,” Elder said in his statement.
“The distinction in quality of life between areas controlled by leftists and those that are not highlight the failure of the woke movement,” he said.
