The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department claims it is in touch with a little girl’s reported mom who was taken to a fire station in Sacramento on Sunday.

“Detectives believe she is, in fact, (the girl’s) mother and are working on confirming that relationship,” the sheriff’s office said.

The girl, about two years old, was left on Sunday, June 30 at a fire station. A guy said the mother of the child was approaching him at a Walmart South Sacramento and then left the child in his vehicle. He brought her for assistance to a fire station.

According to the fire department, the girl seemed to be in excellent health and did not need any medical attention.

She was taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.

The Sacramento Police Department is taking over the investigation and will determine if and when the mom and child will be reunited.
