A 20-year-old U.S. Military Academy cadet who vanished on Friday evening, Oct. 18, has been found dead, according to the West Point Military Police’s news release.
Cadet Kade Kurita from Gardena, California, had been missing when he failed to report for a scheduled military skills competition. His body was discovered on Tuesday night, Oct. 22, at the West Point military post in New York, where his academy is located.
A M4 rifle was also missing but Kurita was not believed to have any magazines or ammunition.
The cause of his death is under investigation.
“We are grieving this loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Cadet Kurita’s family and friends,” Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams, 60th superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy, said in a statement Wednesday.
