An entertainment personality refused to do business with an online streaming service because the platform allows free speech.

Bruce Springsteen’s former guitarist Nils Lofgren joined a growing list of celebrities who refuse to broadcast their work on Spotify.

“We have now gotten the last 27 years of my music taken off Spotify [and] we are reaching out to the labels that own my earlier music to have it removed as well,” he said in a statement.

The previous E Street Band member accused the internet broadcaster of harming users through freely spreading coronavirus (COVID-19) misinformation.

“My wife Amy and I became aware of Neil [Young] and Daryl [Hannah] standing with hundreds of healthcare professionals, scientists, doctors and nurses in calling out Spotify for promoting lies and misinformation that are hurting and killing people,” he said.

Lofgren urged every musician, artist, and fan to “cut ties” with Spotify.

“Music is our planet’s sacred weapon, uniting and healing billions of souls every day. Pick up your sword and start swinging … [and] it is a powerful action you can all take now to honor truth, humanity and the heroes risking their lives everyday to save ours,” he said.

The remarks came after Canadian singer Joni Mitchell declared she would remove all of her music from the online streaming service.

“Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young, and the global scientific and medical communities, on this issue,” she said according to The Hill.

Spotify responded to widespread criticism by introducing a new “content advisory” to every podcast that discusses COVID-19.

“This advisory will direct listeners to our dedicated COVID-19 Hub, a resource that provides easy access to data-driven facts, up-to-date information—as shared by scientists, physicians, academics, and public health authorities around the world—as well as links to trusted sources,” Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement.

“This new effort to combat misinformation will roll out to countries around the world in the coming days. To our knowledge, this content advisory is the first of its kind by a major podcast platform,” he added.
