A long-time friend to fugitive Brian Laundrie revealed he was not a social media person and never enjoyed being in front of the camera in an interview with the Sun.

The friend confirmed that 23-year-old Laundrie had been the most active on social media over the past two years, which may have been off—character.

“He’s a pretty disconnected off the grid type of guy, not the ‘selfie’ type,” the friend said.

His deceased fiance, 22-year-old Gabby Petito, quit her job as a nutritionist to pursue a YouTube career, documenting the van-life experience with him. Laundrie has worked at an organic juice bar, according to bodycam footage shared by Moab police.

The Moab police were summoned to the pair following a 911 phone call alert of a domestic case, alleging they saw Laundrie hitting Petito.

As the law enforcement talked to the pair, Petito told them her fiance did not believe she could make it as a travel influencer. They had been fighting all morning, she said.

“I just quit my job to travel across the country, and I’m trying to start a blog, a travel blog, so I’ve been building my website,” Petito told the cops. “I’ve been really stressed, and he doesn’t really believe that I can do any of it.”

The couple launched their cross-country trip in Petito’s white Ford Transit van in Blue Point, New York, on July 2, according to Business Insider. However, Laundrie returned to their shared home in North Port, Florida, without Petito in the vehicle on Sept. 1.

Petito’s body was found in a Wyoming national park on Sept. 19. A coroner revealed from autopsy inspection that she was strangled to death by human hands.

Laundrie slipped out from police surveillance several days before her corpse was uncovered. Despite extensive manhunt joined by multiple agencies, including the FBI, he has remained an outcast for a month by now.

His friend was not surprised that Laundrie could manage to avoid law enforcement and still preserve his life this far.

“He’s the type of person that would be able to drop everything to secure his means of not being captured and to evade arrest or evade prosecution from what seems to be a pending crime,” the friend said.
