As the Black Lives Matter movement continues to expand throughout the country in the wake of George Floyd’s death, a newly resurfaced video Black Lives Matter Global Network co-founder Patrisse Cullors revealed that she and her fellow BLM creators are “trained Marxists.”

“Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists,” Cullors said in the 2015 interview. “We are super-versed on, sort of, ideological theories.”

BLM, which was originally founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, now has a global network of more than 40 chapters with a mission to “eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes,” according to BLM website.

Back in November 2016, Cullors said she was “in shock, confused, mortified” when she realized that Donald Trump would be the next president of the United States.

Cullors told QUARTZ that her organization wanted to train 300 black leaders across the country to get on school boards, city councils, neighborhood councils, and “every branch of government” in order to achieve their major goal which is to build “real political power” from the bottom up.

“It’s a strategy that the Panthers began halfway through their movement,” said Cullors in reference to The Black Panthers—a group that was influenced by Marxism. “I think we need to do that.”

In 2017, Cullors compared President Trump to Adolf Hitler and portrayed the president as “the epitome of evil, all the evils of this country—be it racism, capitalism, sexism, homophobia.”

On Friday, Cullors made it clear that BLM’s goal is “to get Trump out” of office during an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead.”

“Well, I’m hands down—Trump not only needs to not be in office in November but he should resign now,” Cullors said. “Trump needs to be out of office. He is not fit for office. And so what we are going to push for is a move to get Trump out.”

“While we’re also going to continue to push and pressure vice president Joe Biden around his policies and relationship to policing and criminalization,” she added. “That’s going to be important. But our goal is to get Trump out.”
