Former President Bill Clinton was hospitalized this week at the University of California Irvine Medical Center in Orange, California, where he is undergoing treatment for a non-COVID-19-related infection.

“On Tuesday evening, President Clinton was admitted to UCI Medical Center to receive treatment for a non-Covid-related infection,” Clinton’s spokesperson Angel Urena said in a tweet on Thursday evening, Oct. 14.

“He is on the mend, in good spirits, and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care,” the spokesperson said.

The Hill citing two people familiar with the matter, said Clinton suffered sepsis.

A source close to the situation reported to Fox News: “It was diagnosed as a urological infection which morphed into a broader infection. As you can see in his statement from his doctors, the prognosis is good and they hope to have him home soon. He’s up and about, joking and charming the hospital staff.” 

Irvine Medical Center also confirmed that the former president is being treated there.

“President Clinton was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center and diagnosed with an infection,” the Department of Medicine Chairman Alpesh Amin (at the University of California) and Hospital Medicine for UCI Health Director Lisa Bardack said in a joint statement that Urena shared to Fox News.

“He was admitted to the hospital for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids. He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring,” they said.

The doctors said that Clinton’s white blood cell count is trending down after two days of treatment, and he is responding to antibiotics well.

“The California-based medical team has been in constant communication with the President’s New York-based medical team, including his cardiologist. We hope to have him go home soon,” they added.

Clinton, 75, has a history of heart issues, undergoing a quadruple bypass in 2004, according to The Hill. He also underwent a heart procedure in 2010 to restore blood flow to one of his coronary arteries.
