Howard Armstrong was luckily survived from the Hurricane Dorian. But it doesn’t matter much to him now as he lost everything, including his wife.
In an interview with CNN, Armstrong gave an account of what happened after the storm trapped him inside of his home. As the water kept coming up, all the appliances were going around the house. Armstrong said it was 21 feet at least when it reached over the roof.
Armstrong then recalled the moment his wife, Lynn, standing on top of the kitchen cabinets until they disintegrated and just drowned right in front of his eyes.
Armstrong said he got out of his house after his wife drowned and swam to his 40-foot boat.
“I had no tools to chop a hole in the roof in the ceiling, so I saw my boat was there and I swam, I took a chance and I swam out to it,” he said.
After swimming to his boat, Armstrong heard his neighbor screaming and went to check on her home. When he looked inside, he saw her dead body.
Armstrong is now a widower and wants to recover his wife’s body.
“She was gone so quickly,” he said.
Armstrong said that he’d lived in Freeport for 58 years and had “battled many a hurricane,” but had never seen flooding like this.
“Everything I own is gone,” Armstrong said. “Every single thing.”
