The baby of a pregnant woman who was struck and killed by a semi-truck in Chicago’s River North neighborhood died on Saturday morning, Sept. 21.
The 29-year-old woman, identified as Elizabeth Boshardy of the Ukrainian Village neighborhood, was crossing at an intersection at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, when she was hit, police said.
A semi-truck turned into the intersection and struck the woman.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the victim was pinned under the semi and had to be extricated. She was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Doctors were working on Boshardy’s baby, Hannah Elizabeth Boshardy, since then. Saturday morning, the baby was pronounced dead, just four days after she was born, according to the Cook County medical examiner.
Police said the driver, 67, from west suburban Lyons, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
