A 22-year-old Allen County, Kansas father was arrested on suspicion of aggravated endangerment of his little son, criminal restraint and causing him to become a child in need of care.
A 4-year-old boy locked in his room, alone, at his home just outside Iola city limits on the 600 block of S. Ohio Street, which had human waste in it, authorities said.
The incident discovered on late Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, as neighbors heard a 4-year-old child banging on his bedroom window and asking for someone to unlock his door. according to Allen County District Court documents.
After receiving the report of the incident, officers went to the address, but they didn’t find any adults home. So, they quickly made entry and found the child in the bedroom, KOAM News Now reported.
The child’s room had an overwhelming odor of ammonia and had human waste on the floor, officers said.
The doorknob to the child’s bedroom had been turned around backward so it could be locked from the outside, with no way to exit the room or access to any bathroom facilities. officers added.
The boy’s father, who was supposed to have his temporary care and custody, scheduled to work until midnight at his work, police said.
A similar situation to this had happened in the past, the boy’s mother said.
His father was taken to prison on a $10,000 bond as of 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Nov. 7.
