Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Captain Chris Arnold, who would have turned 57 on Monday, Oct. 7, was fatally shot during an altercation at his home in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday night, Oct. 5, 2019.

Kansas City police received a 911 call from his 22-year-old son, Zachary Arnold just before 8 p.m., saying that a shooting had occurred in the 2800 block of North 76th Street.

First responders found Arnold’s body with a gunshot wound inside his home. They said that he was killed during a domestic dispute while he was off-duty, according to KSNT.

Zachary was charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the death on Sunday, KSHB reported.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.

Arnold served as a law enforcement officer for over 20 years, Wyandotte County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Jeff Tayler said.

“Today we lost a good man,” Tayler wrote. “It pains me to think of how he passed…It seems as if every time we attempt to heal, we take a step back into the darkness and evil of this world.”
