The suicide of billionaire convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York on Aug. 10, is surrounded by “serious irregularities,” as U.S. Attorney General William Barr stated on Aug. 12.

Barr sent two high-ranking officials on Aug. 15 to investigate the events that led to Epstein’s death.

He also commented that the detention center “did not take appropriate security measures around this prisoner.”

Fox News, for its part, quoted anonymous sources who said that some officials are not cooperating with the investigation initiated by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

It is noteworthy that MCC officers repeatedly failed to record the checks that should have been made by officers every 30 minutes.

Moreover, it is suspected that the night shift guards falsified the records trying to show that they were complying with the checks they should make to the prisoner every half hour, according to Fox News.

As a result, the director of the MCC was reassigned and two officials were given administrative leave while the investigation proceeds.

Meanwhile, James Petrucci, the director of the Federal Correctional Institution of Otisville, New York, was appointed interim director of the MCC, according to USAToday.

It is also significant that 10 of the 18 guards who showed up to work the shift in which the suicide took place, from midnight until 8 a.m., were working overtime.

“It is indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocols,” said Martin Weinberg, Reid Weingarten, and Michael Miller, Epstein’s lawyers, according to Fox News.

They also expressed dissatisfaction with the forensic report and said they would conduct an independent investigation into the causes of the financier’s death.

Barr stressed that he will take the investigation to its ultimate conclusion and that those who have participated in the crimes being investigated “should not be calm.”

Epstein’s death aroused curiosity on social networks, where people speculate that “it wasn’t suicide,” and some said “we’ll never know the whole truth.”
