Amid a wave of anti-Semitic attacks in the United States, an armed citizen in Miami, Florida, intervened and saved a Jewish family attacked after leaving their synagogue by a group of men identified as pro-Palestinian protesters.

On Saturday, a citizen identified as Eric Orgen and his family walked through the Bal Harbour neighborhood after visiting the synagogue they frequently visit in the area. According to Fox News, everything was going typically until a group of men stopped their vehicle in front of them and began shouting violently and throwing garbage at them.

According to reports, a group of thugs was heard shouting, “Free Palestine, die Jew, Jew, I’m going to rape your wife.”

But as the assault began, an armed citizen in another vehicle saw what was happening and intervened.

Orgen told CBS 12: “The guy in the car behind them saw everything go on. I saw him pull a gun and get in between—I mean he was almost there as our guardian angel just protecting us. I think once they saw him they just took off.”

Commenting on the attack, Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman said of the alleged attack on the Orgen family and other reported attacks on Jews in Florida: “It’s to put fear into the Jewish community’s hearts, and to the perpetrators of this attack, they must know that they will fail. We’re a strong community and a proud community and we stand strong with Israel and no amount of attacks or intimidation is going to work.”

On the other hand, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also repudiated the anti-Semitic action and issued a statement Wednesday denouncing the recent incidents.

“Acts of hate and violence against any community are not tolerated in Miami-Dade County. Hate and intolerance contradict the foundations of our community—a place where so many generations of people found a safe home after fleeing their own countries to build a new life with their families.”

According to the victims’ statements, the attack was in part thwarted by a man armed with a revolver, inevitably reminiscent of the debate raging right now as Democratic groups, along the lines of the radical left, push to abolish the Second Amendment to the National Constitution, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms.

For the defenders of the right to bear arms, the idea of banning them is unconstitutional on the one hand, and on the other hand, it will not prevent criminals from acquiring them. Therefore, they assure that if the request of the anti-gun advocates is fulfilled, it will only lead to a situation of greater insecurity by eliminating the possibility of self-defense by good citizens.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote on his Twitter account regarding the gun debate a few months ago: “Threats to our Second Amendment are not exaggerated. Protecting these rights is absolutely essential to promoting American freedom.”

Yesterday’s situation experienced by the Jewish family saved by a gunman once again validates the importance of the Second Amendment.

The attack on Eric Orgen, his wife, and his 16-year-old daughter for simply being Jewish comes amid a growing wave of anti-Semitism in the United States that began with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip.

From New York and California to Illinois and Utah, the recent conflict between Israel and Gaza has generated a disturbing backlash against American Jews, who have become targets of death threats, hate speech, and violent physical attacks.
