Early results from a new antibody study on the CCP Virus (coronavirus) indicate that almost 3 million people statewide in New York have been infected with the virus.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Thursday, “These are people who were infected and who developed the antibodies to fight the infection.” He added, “They had the virus, they developed the antibodies and they are now ‘recovered.'”

“What we found so far is that the statewide number is 13.9% tested positive for having the antibodies,” he said. “They were infected three weeks ago, four weeks ago, five weeks ago, six weeks ago, but they had the virus, they developed the antibodies and they are now recovered.”

The new test indicated around 2.7 million residents may have carried the infection, reported Fox News.

The 3,000 samples were collected from 40 sites in 19 counties, according to Cuomo, and suggested the infection rate is as high as 21.2 percent in places like New York City.

Testing sites were conducted outside areas such as grocery stores and shopping locations, mostly in the regions of Westchester, New York City, and Long Island.

“These are people who were out and about shopping,” Cuomo said. “They were not people who were in their home, they are not people who are isolated, they are not people who are quarantined—who you could argue probably had a lower rate of infection because they wouldn’t come out of the house.”

On Long Island, the positive rate was 16.7 percent, while the positive rate in Westchester/Rockland Counties and the rest of the state was 11.7 and 3.6 percent, respectively.

Como said his meeting at the White House with President Trump on Tuesday  was “very productive and positive.”

Cuomo said the situation in New York is “improving.” The aim of testing for the virus is 40,000 per day, but that figure will take several weeks to achieve.

The USNS Comfort is no longer needed to house additional patients, said Cuomo, and it will be relocated back to its base, ready to be deployed in other areas if needed. It was used for 178 patients during its time in the New York Harbor.

New cases of the virus needing to be hospitalized has flattened, said Cuomo. New York reported 438 additional CCP Virus deaths on Thursday, April 23.
