Anna Kate Wilkerson’s father said his 4-year-old daughter died over the weekend due to complications from the flu, but the Alabama Department of Public Health has not confirmed the death as flu-related.

Kevin Wilkerson said both Anna Kate and her younger brother, Fisher, tested positive for Type A flu, News 5 reported. Wilkerson said Fisher is doing better. The family expects the toddler to be released from the hospital soon.

“We really don’t know how to say or do this, but as many of you know, we lost our precious baby girl, our big helper, Anna Kate, due to complications from the flu,” Kevin Wilkerson wrote on a Facebook post. “She was the star in our family’s solar system, no one was pulled in by her personality more, than her little brother Fisher.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist the family with funeral expenses. Wilkerson said they truly appreciate the support of the UMS-Wright community and the community of Mobile, and are seeing how much of an impact Anna Kate’s life had on people.

According to her obituary, Anna Kate was a K3 student at UMS-Wright Preparatory School. Her funeral will take place on Sunday, Feb. 9, at Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama. The visitation is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
