A severe traffic backup caused by holiday travelers returning to California from the Las Vegas area reached 21 miles on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada said, ABC7 reported.
The lanes heading south and west on Interstate 15 moved at a trickle Sunday when the Thanksgiving holiday weekend wrapped up.
Drivers were warned by the Nevada Highway Patrol not to use the shoulder to bypass traffic.
Troopers are patrolling the area. Violations bring a $200 fine and potential insurance penalties.
