A Virginia girl with leukemia who raised $7,400 for St. Jude using a lemonade stand is now cancer-free.
Ellee Large, 8, of Abingdon, was diagnosed in January 2017 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, according to WCYB. She had been receiving treatment at St. Jude in Memphis since then.
As a way of giving back to the hospital that treated Ellee for the past two and a half years, the 8-year-old decided to open a lemonade stand in August while fighting her own battle. Ellee’s mom, Shauna Large said the money raised went to the St. Jude Walk-A-Thon.
“One of the ways she dealt with her own battle is trying to help … help other kids that she’s met because those are her friends and those are our families,” said Shauna Large.
Elle’s family announced Monday the girl is now cancer-free. She is onto the final round of treatments within the next two weeks and will be returning home to Abingdon with her family this weekend.
