The Chicago Fire Department was called around 1 p.m. Sunday to an apartment in the 7500-block of South Coles Avenue, according to Chicago police.

His mother told investigators she placed the boy in the bathtub and left. When she came back 10 minutes later, she found him not responsive.

The child was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:55 p.m., authorities said.

The boy was identified as Lendel Collins, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
