North Carolina police said Aubriana Recinos, a 4-year-old girl is now safe and sound after disappearing more than a month.
She had been missing since late May. Aubriana Recinos was reunited with her father Mario Recinos in Texas on Friday, Aug. 2.
Her mom, Carmen Lowe, did not return her to the custody of her father after a visit.
Authorities claim that Lowe was effectively part of an FBI-investigated human trafficking operation.
“The child was pretty much given to a pimp, an associate of the pimp or family of the pimp for keeping,” Maj. Robert Ramirez of the Fayetteville Police Department said. “It is a ring. It is a human trafficking ring that the FBI was investigating. These individuals had other children as well for other girls were actually working this human trafficking operation.”
Lowe was detained on Thursday in New Orleans. In a house in Lewisville, Texas, Aubriana was later discovered.
It is anticipated that she and her dad will return Friday to Fayetteville, North Carolina.
