Police in central California said the 4-month-old baby who was allegedly kidnapped by a homeless man was found safe.
According to officers, the child was located in Lemoore and the suspect, 42-year-old Westley Williams, was taken into custody for questioning.
Investigators said Williams had dated the child’s mother and that he took the child moments after she told him he could be his father.
The man called police to ask about his parental rights and officers told him to return the baby to his mother. However, he did not do so and turned off his phone.
Police discovered his car Tuesday and arrested him.
Initially police considered this was a child custody dispute but have since confirmed this was a kidnapping.
