Talia Rosco has a serious liver disorder. Her parents employed college student Kiersten Miles to look after Talia, but for their dying daughter, they never expected her to do this.
An act of selflessness is a very rare find in today’s day and age, as rare as successfully locating a needle in a haystack. People have forgotten that it is not for one’s own benefit to show kindness, but rather to assist others in need. This is why an act like this simply renews your faith in the world. That’s precisely what this nanny was doing for the kid she cared for.
Talia Rosco was just 9 weeks old when the physicians found out that her eyes had begun to show signs of jaundice. They find that she had a life-threatening disease known as biliary atresia.
Biliary Atresia is a disease that makes it impossible for the liver to function as it should. At that point, all the doctors could do was put Talia on the list of organ donors and hope for the best. And that’s precisely what they did while also waiting patiently for her family and hoping for the best.
That’s when the Roscos, Farra, and George Rosco met Kiersten Miles, a 22-year-old nanny that was later recruited by Talia’s parents to look after Talia and her two brothers. Miles knew Talia just a few weeks ago when she fell completely in love with the toddler. Soon she began to think about all the ways she could assist.
She later knew she might save Talia’s life of Talia. The blood type of Miles was O which meant it was consistent with all other kinds of blood. So after chatting with the Roscos, Miles decided she would donate some of her liver so Talia wouldn’t have to wait for one. The list of organ donors generally moves slowly, and when waiting for an organ, complications may occur.
Farra Rosco, Talia’s mother, said that “I was very taken aback, I didn’t know that she was this selfless — I’ve come to find out that this is who she is. She really is an angel on earth; I know that sounds silly, but she really is.”
Miles’s initial concern was that during surgery something might go wrong. But it all went as it was supposed to. Malia said later, “He told me that I could definitely see her in the next couple of days. He said she was doing great. And when he left, I just started bawling.” She couldn’t control the emotions that were welling up inside of her. She was just so happy that she got to save the life of this little angel that she had grown to love in just a few weeks.
Miles went to see the little angel a few days after the operation. The little angel opened her eyes, looking at Miles, and smiling. And she said that it had, “just made everything worth it.”
At the same moment, it’s incredible and incredible that a mere 22-year-old college student could do something so completely selfless. She looked beyond her own needs to see the baby’s bigger needs under her care–a baby that still couldn’t speak yet. If we could all just open our hearts a little more like Miles, this world would most likely be a better place for everyone, it would come alive in an instant with the light of love.
Share the tale of Kiersten to inspire others through this selfless act of love, and kindly keep Talia in your prayers!
