A 20-year-old Iowa man was arrested for allegedly using a fake “McLovin” ID to get into a bar, according to police.
Daniel Alfredo Burleson, a University of Iowa student, was arrested on Friday night , Oct. 11, after a police officer spotted him at an Iowa City bar holding an alcoholic drink in his hand, WSFB reported.
When the officer approached Burleson, he admitted that he was drinking a vodka-infused drink but refused to give officers his identification card. The officer took him out of the bar and that’s when he gave officers his ID, revealing he was underage.
Burleson was asked to show his fake ID card, officers said. He told police he didn’t have one but while he pulled out his wallet and shuffled through it, officers spotted a fake Hawaii ID with the name “McLovin” and a birthdate of June 3, 1981, a reference to the 2007 movie “Superbad,” in which a character uses a fake ID under the same name to buy alcohol at a liquor store.
According to a complaint affidavit, the 20-year-old told police he bought the fake ID off Amazon.
Authorities stated Burleson “smelled strongly of ingested alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes.”
The man was charged with possession of a fictitious license, unlawfully possessing alcohol, public intoxication, and being under the legal age in a bar. He was released from jail on his own recognizance, according to WOI.
