A toddler in South Carolina died after he accidentally shot himself with a gun he reportedly found in his grandmother’s purse, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said.
The little boy identified as Kayden John Stuber, 2, of Greenville, South Carolina, accidentally shot himself in the head on June 20, 2019.
Although deputies tried to help Kayden before paramedics arrived, on the way to the Pediatric Emergency Department of Prisma Health Systems, Kayden died.
Kent Dill of coroner’s office said that on Thursday afternoon, while his parents were at work, Kayden was being watched by his grandmother and aunt. He said, “Apparently, he went into the grandmother’s purse that was sitting on the bed and, in some way retrieved, was handling the gun when it discharged.”
Preliminary results show that, according to the coroner office, the cause of death was a bullet wound to the head and an autopsy was planned for Friday.
No charges have been filed or will be in the future, but the shooting is under investigation.
