About 1,600 people have gathered at Shelton State Community College, Alabama, today to pay tribute to Tuscaloosa Police Officer Dornell Cousette, who was shot and killed while trying to make an arrest on Monday night, Sept. 16.
The funeral was held in the gymnasium of the college before he was buried in Aliceville, his hometown. Police departments from across the state were in attendance.
Cousette served in the Tuscaloosa Police Department for more than 13 years. He is survived by his two daughters and fiancée.

The 20-year-old suspect, who was wounded, was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities didn’t immediately release his name, according to The Associated Press. He is now in custody and charged with the fatal shooting.
