A 16-year-old girl was killed in a shooting outside a convenience store in Dolton on Tuesday night, Aug. 27, officials said.

Keira Foster was shot and killed inside a vehicle outside the Moonlight Food Deli and Liquor store, at about 9 p.m., according to Dolton Village Trustee Andrew Holmes and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The gunman hopped out of the passenger side of a car that pulled up, taking aim at a man getting into the car with Foster.

The man jumped into his car and escape unharmed, but Foster was shot twice in the abdomen, Holmes said.

“She’s innocent,” Holmes said, according to KABC-TV. “She probably was just sitting there and didn’t know anything was going on until he started shooting in the car and the glass started breaking and she was hit. A person can be sitting in a car and not knowing that a person is chasing another person is shooting at him at that time.”

Foster was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Dolton police are looking for surveillance video in this most recent shooting and are asking any witnesses to come forward, Holmes said.
