At least six people died and 60 were injured when a felon out on bail intentionally drove his SUV into the crowd at the Wisconsin Christmas parade. Jessalyn Torres, an 11-year-old girl, remains on a ventilator fighting for her life nearly a week after the tragedy.

Darrell Brooks, 39, crashed into the Waukesha Christmas parade on Nov. 21, injuring nine children, including Jessalyn Torres, who suffered a shattered pelvis and femur, a fractured head, lacerations to her lungs, and the loss of a kidney.

Amber Kohnke, Torres’ mother, told the media that her daughter is still at the Children’s Wisconsin Hospital, where they spent Thanksgiving holiday together in her daughter’s hospital room as the Daily Mail reported.

“No mother should ever go through this. This is a very traumatic ordeal,” as a mother of four, Kohnke was able to speak her experience. “The hardest part was not being with everyone and Jessalyn, in the condition she is, was not able to be with her family either.”

In a series of Facebook posts, Kohnke recounted her experience of witnessing her daughter fight to breathe.

“I hate watching my daughter go through this,” she said in one of her notes. For her sake, “cry a little tear, suck it up, and stay strong for her, she is a fighter!”

After watching, crying and saying how proud she was of her daughter, Jessalyn sat there and held her hand, kissed her head and said mom proud of her.

There are still four children in severe condition following the atrocity, including Torres, who implored doctors to “glue her back together” as she was taken to the hospital. The hospital said that three other kids are in fair condition, and two more youngsters are in good conditions.

Torres was a dancing with the Waukesha Xtreme Dance group in the parade on Sunday, when Brooks slammed his SUV into the crowd and threw Kohnke’s daughter into the air.

Brooks’ criminal records

The responsible for the Chrismas Parade carnage is an amateur rapper named Darrell Brooks Jr., whose rhymes include “f*** the pigs” and “f*** Donald Trump”.

Also known as MathBoi Fly, he is a career criminal. Brooks was accused of sexual assault when he had intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in 2006, he was found guilty of statutory rape in Nevada. Brooks had only turned 24 when he was convicted.

As of November 19, Brooks had posted a $1,000 cash bond on violence, disorderly conduct, bail jumping, and resisting an officer charges. Milwaukee’s District Attorney conceded that the bail was “inappropriately low”, the allegations stem from an incident on Nov, 2 in Milwaukee involving the mother of one of his children.

She was tracked down in a hotel before Brooks followed her in his car and demanded she get inside before “punching her with a closed fist” and “running her over.” according to reports. After Brooks was charged on Nov. 5, he was released on bail on Nov. 11, but the records weren’t updated until Nov. 19.

Brooks had been involved in a domestic dispute with a knife earlier on the day of the parade. The dispute had been reported, but police could do nothing in response to that complaint as they were busy with the parade.

“Was there an initial complaint of a knife being involved? Yes,” he said. “Do we know if there actually was one there? We don’t.”

When Brooks crashed into the parade, he was not being rushed by the police. However, one officer discharged his gun, attempting to stop his SUV car.

The entire community is still in grief for the attack and elevate their prayers as these innocent kids are still recovering and clinging to life.
