At a press conference on April 10, Chen Xueming, deputy director of the Educational Bureau of Guangzhou, announced that online classes would be implemented as of April 11.

The suspension of offline lessons is a response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The new measures will last, tentatively, until April 17.

Primary and secondary schools, Kindergartens, and after-school training will adopt remote teaching.

In addition, college and university students will be under closed management and are not allowed to leave the campus unless necessary. Faculty and staff are only allowed to travel between home and school.

Guangzhou advises citizens not to leave the city unless necessary. Those leaving the city must obtain a negative test certificate 48 hours before.

Even though Guangzhou City only has 23 reported cases, its government has started to make early prevention.
