An entertainment professional was criticized after offering to kill the president for half the amount Iranian state television tried to fundraise on Jan. 5.

Comedian George Lopez, who is better known for his stand up acts about ethnicity and race, drew the ire of social media users when he inappropriately joked he would assassinate Donald Trump for $40 million, which was half the bounty Iran’s mullah regime asked viewers to donate on state run television.

“We will do it for half,” Lopez commented on Instagram.

As The BL previously reported, Iran’s state television asked its audience of up to 80 million people to donate a total of $80 million for a bounty on Donald Trump’s head.

“Iran has 80 million inhabitants. Based on the Iranian population, we want to raise $80 million, which is a reward for those who get close to the head of President Trump, ” the Iranian mullah regime said on state television according to en24.

The message reportedly came at the request of the regime, which recently organized a funeral service after a U.S. airstrike killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani. The regime holds the president responsible for his death.

Turning Point USA President Charles Kirk described Lopez’s joke as “sick” and hoped it would result in an official investigation by authorities.

“George Lopez just publicly said he would kill the president of the United States for $40 million,” Kirk said on Twitter. “Why are Hollywood leftists obsessed with killing the president? Hey, Secret Service this might be worth looking into.”

Republican candidate for Florida’s 13th Congressional District Anna Paulina Luna was also alarmed at the comedian’s casual approach to matters of national security.

“Did George Lopez really just say he would assassinate Donald Trump for the bounty placed on him by Iran?” Luna said on Twitter. “Secret Service investigate this as soon as possible.”

Students for Trump Cochairman Ryan Fournier was also unimpressed by Lopez’s “sick” sense of humor.

“The left [side of politics] is sick,” Fournier said on Twitter. “George Lopez just said he’d assassinate President Trump for half of the $80 million bounty. [The] Secret Service should take a look at this.”

Other Instagram users believed Lopez’s offer could be considered a domestic act of terrorism.

“George Lopez did you just offer a bounty for the killing of our president?” sjbaker64 commented. “I hope you are investigated. Terrorist act.”

A representative for Lopez defended the remark as just a joke. However, Luna is still not convinced that kind of humor is acceptable in this situation.

“For those saying that George Lopez was only ‘joking’ about assassinating Donald Trump, do you actually believe this type of joke would have been okay in reference to either [former President] Barack Obama or [former First Lady] Michelle Obama?” the candidate said on Twitter. “Didn’t think so.”
