This week, a Colombian bungee jumper died when a communications error prompted her to jump off a bridge before she was connected to the bungee cord.
Yecenia Morales, 25, and her unknown boyfriend went on an expedition organized by local company Sky Bungee Jumping to the Amagá viaduct, a popular bungee site, Newsflash reported.
Morales’ boyfriend, who was in line ahead of Morales, was told to take the plunge by the operators. Instead, however, Newsflash said that the young lawyer, evidently believing the cue was intended for her, plunged off the bridge without a safety cord attached and dropped 164 feet into the valley below.
According to subsequent medical reports, the young daredevil may have suffered a heart attack before hitting the ground, in addition to the injuries she sustained during the free fall.
Morales’ heartbroken boyfriend rushed down to his fallen soulmate at that point, where he futilely attempted CPR. But, unfortunately, she was later pronounced dead at the site by firefighters.
“The signal was for the boyfriend to jump because he was already attached to the security equipment,” Gustavo Guzmán, the mayor of Fredonia, told El Tiempo. “They had only put the harness on her so she got confused and rushed.”
“My sister is a girl with all the best values, happy, spontaneous, with virtues that made her love her friends, and helped the people in need,” Morales’ family have expressed their sorrow over the woman’s death.
Nonetheless, Daily Mail stated officials had launched an investigation into reports that some companies at the site were operating without a license.
