The Washington Post tried to discredit President Donald Trump’s claim that the most dangerous cities in America are run by Democrats but it ended up proving the president’s point.

President Trump and other Republicans have repeatedly pointed out that the cities in America with the biggest problems are all run by Democrats. On Wednesday, the president said that “every one” of  America’s “20 most dangerous” cities “are Democrat run.” The Post pushed back on the claim with an article headlined, “Trump keeps claiming that the most dangerous cities in America are all run by Democrats. They aren’t.”

According to the Post, only 17 out of 20 cities with the highest number of crimes are run by Democrats while two are administered by independent mayors, and one by Republican mayor.

The article also showed that per capita, 19 of the 20 cities with the most violent crime per 10,000 residents are controlled by Democrats and 1 run by an Independent.

“Most of the current mayors of these cities are Democrats,” The Post admitted. “Two of the mayors of cities with the most reported violent crimes overall, though, are independents and one, the mayor of Jacksonville, Fla., is a Republican. Among the 20 cities with the most violent crime per capita, one isn’t a Democrat: the independent mayor of Springfield, Mo.”

While the Post was too busy trying to disprove the president’s claim it accidentally admitted his talking point: Democrats have a lack of leadership. The network was roundly mocked on social media following the publication.

During his campaign rally in Tulsa on June 20, President Trump criticized Democratic leaders over poverty and crime,  singling out Detroit and Baltimore.

“Twenty of twenty of the most dangerous cities in America are controlled by Democrats. Think of that. Twenty of twenty,” the president told his supporters. “So is nearly every major city with a child poverty rate that is over 30 percent. They are controlled by Democrats. You can name every one of them.”

“The murder rate of Baltimore and Detroit is higher than El Salvador, Guatemala, or even Afghanistan. How are they doing the Democrats running those cities? Your whole country will be like that,” he added.

Scathing letter to Chicago mayor and Illinois governor

President Trump slammed Democrats Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Illinois Gov. Jay Robert “J.B.” Pritzker in a letter on Friday over ongoing gun violence that has plagued the city in recent years.

“Your lack of leadership on this important issue continues to fail the people you have sworn to protect. I am concerned it is another example of your lack of commitment to the vulnerable citizens who are victims of this violence and a lack of respect for the men and women in law enforcement,” President Trump wrote.

“The American people (hardworking taxpayers) send you millions of dollars in federal funding each year to support public safety in Chicago. In 2018 and 2019, the city of Chicago benefited from $136 million in funding from the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Program, and another $68 million was recently announced for Chicago from this important program,” he continued. “Unfortunately, you continue to put your own political interests ahead of the lives, safety, and fortunes of your own citizens. The people of Chicago deserve better.”

“I am willing to tackle unsolved challenges. If you are willing to put partisanship aside, we can revitalize distressed neighborhoods in Chicago, together,” he said. “But to succeed, you must establish law and order.”

Lightfoot responded to the letter, saying, “I don’t need leadership lessons from Donald Trump.”
