The leaders in Washington state continue to insist on a plan for “comprehensive sexual health education,” even though citizens have said they do not want their children to receive the controversial curriculum from kindergarten on, local radio KTTH reported.

House Bill 2184 is designed to address issues such as consent for sex, but also includes lessons that target “LGBTQ+ students” and could be implemented from 2022.

The legislation, pushed by Democratic lawmakers, is being addressed by the House Education Committee, despite 54% of the population opposes the teaching of sex education to children in kindergarten through fifth grade, according to a survey by the state’s Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) working group.

The CSHE was created in 2019, under the Office of the Superintendent, precisely to assess the needs of the state’s district sexual health curriculum.

More than 10,000 respondents participated in the survey, nearly three-quarters of whom were women.

But CSHE ignored citizen opinion and moved forward with the plan.

“I would encourage you guys to go back and really listen to the people who disagree and come back with something better,” advised Republican Rep. Michelle Caldier, quoted by KTTH.

What it is

The curriculum includes such things as telling students the proper term for body parts said KTTH journalist Jason Rantz.

The curriculum also focuses on talking about consent to sex, but takes it to the extreme of suggesting that both parties should explicitly state some kind of verbal contract before becoming intimate.

“It is fair to say that for the majority of us we are familiar with a whole lot of implied consent. You know, like no one stopping or asking anyone to stop. We call it common sense,” explains Carmine Sabia, a columnist for the conservative website The Western Journal.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a nonpartisan NGO, shares this view.

“[Affirmative consent policies] threaten fundamental fairness by enforcing standards against accused students that are often vague and/or overbroad, and may lack the details necessary for students to comply. Indeed, many such policies are, for all practical purposes, impossible to follow,” he argued.

The curriculum also develops the “progressive” idea that gender and sex are not the same thing.

“This lesson does, however, acknowledge that there are some body parts that mostly just girls have and some parts that mostly just boys have. Being a boy or a girl doesn’t have to mean you have those parts, but for most people this is how their bodies are,” states the curriculum.

Also, first-graders are encouraged to read a children’s book called ‘My Child Princess’ about gender expression.

“You may notice language throughout the curriculum that seems less familiar—using the pronoun ‘they’ instead of ‘her’ or ‘him,’ using gender neutral names in scenarios and role-plays and referring to ‘someone with a vulva’ vs. a girl or woman. This is intended to make the curriculum inclusive of all genders and gender identities,” the controversial program continues.

“How dare the state educate kids on subjects the majority of parents have said they do not want!” said Sabia.

“More and more public schools have become social-justice indoctrination camps,” he said, adding that this may be why homeschooling is growing as parents “decide they do not want their kids brainwashed.”
