A Democrat from California used her first visit to the U.S.–Mexico border to criticize the previous president.

On her inaugural trip to the southern border Vice President Kamala Harris took a swipe at Donald Trump’s “disastrous” policies that still have immigration flow-on “effects” despite the new Biden administration coming into power.

“It is here in El Paso that the return to Mexico policy from the previous administration was implemented,” she said according to Fox News. “We have seen the disaster that resulted from that.”

Harris also accused the previous Trump administration of forcibly removing children from their parents, despite widespread photographic evidence that at least one case was staged.

“It is here in El Paso that the previous administration’s child separation policy was unveiled,” she said. “We have seen the disastrous effects of that right here in this region.”

When President Trump was in the Oval Office, he introduced tougher border control measures to deter illegal immigrants.

However, the Democratic Party pounced on false news reports of migrant parents complaining about being detained while fighting deportation or waiting for asylum hearings to end. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) allegedly held their offspring until a legal guardian was found in the United States.

At that time, DHS said it was important to discourage families from risking the perilous journey to enter U.S. territory. However, the so-called “child separation policy” ended up being withdrawn for ethical reasons.

“The journey north is a dangerous one with too many situations where children–brought by parents, relatives or smugglers–are often exploited, abused or may even lose their lives,” DHS said in a statement obtained by Reuters. “With safety in mind, DHS continually explores options that may discourage those from even beginning the journey.”

The vice president continued to use false news reports to blame President Trump for prioritizing politics ahead of keeping families together.

“They are without their parents, they are also full of hope, they were asking me questions, ‘How do you become the first woman vice president?'” she said according to the broadcaster. “We are talking about children, we are talking about families, we are talking about suffering–and our approach has to be thoughtful and effective.”

The latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows the highest number of illegal immigrants were recorded during Joe Biden’s presidency.

There are still many unaccompanied minors despite Biden’s efforts to make the immigration system more “humane.” The Democrat has offered sponsorship and free accommodation to unsupervised children.

As previously reported by BL, footage from March shows underage detainees huddled together in confined spaces at the Donna facility in Texas.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) compared conditions that minor migrants endured to a “humanitarian and a public health crisis.”
